ABOUT DAVE
Welcome! I’m Dave Cantrell, and I’m glad you’re here.
I have been married for 25 years to my wonderful wife and I am a proud father of two grown sons. We also have two rescue dogs as our family companions. I enjoy homebrewing and love to get my hands dirty by gardening and raising chickens. Being an avid reader, I have a particular interest in labor and U.S. history topics.
I have been a dedicated union electrician for the past 24 years and have held various leadership roles with the IBEW LU 141. Currently, I am serving as the president of the union. Additionally, I am an active member of the Ohio Valley Trades & Labor (CLC) and also serve as the president of this organization. My extensive experience in the labor industry has made me a strong advocate for workers’ rights and livelihood protection.
I am passionate about positively impacting my community and believe in the power of collaboration to achieve common goals. I volunteer my time for various community events, including the annual Dunk Tank for Charity and the Reverend Cumming/Bethlehem Apostolic Temple Food Basket Giveaway.
MY VALUES
For generations, our state has been a beacon of hope and opportunity for people from every corner of the globe. It’s here, in West Virginia, that individuals have sought the chance to build a better life for themselves and their loved ones.
The indomitable spirit that has fueled American homes and the heart of the American middle class still resides within each of us. It is this very spirit that propels me to stand as your strongest advocate in Charleston come November.
House Democrats are committed to fostering opportunity for all West Virginians. We pledge to support communities with excellent public schools and thriving local businesses. We aim to ensure access to affordable healthcare and safe, uncontaminated homes. Moreover, we are dedicated to forging a 21st-century economy by safeguarding our workers and enhancing access to skill development and higher education.
By pursuing these common objectives, we pave the way for a brighter future for West Virginia and genuine opportunities for its people. I am determined to work tirelessly to transform this vision into a reality.
Together, let us seize this moment and build a stronger, more prosperous West Virginia for all.
Reproductive health in West Virginia must be protected. Every woman should have access and control over their reproductive care. Laws that threaten the reproductive freedom of West Virginians should be overturned to ensure women have control over their reproductive health. I will also address reproductive health discrimination based on gender identity, sexual orientation, race, disability, income, and other factors.
PEIA is essential for providing healthcare for over 200,000 individuals and families in West Virginia and must be protected and maintained. PEIA should be adequately funded and supported so that it may prevent burdens on hard-working West Virginians and their families. PEIA funding has been a recurring issue in our state, and I am committed to finding a long-term funding solution to protect workers in West Virginia.
I strongly believe in protecting the rights and livelihoods of the hard-working West Virginians. More than 75,000 workers in our state are represented by labor unions. West Virginian workers deserve to have their fundamental rights protected. My objective is to defend and fight for hard-working men and women by fighting for safe and fair working environments. As a union member and electrician, I have always advocated for workers’ rights and livelihood protection and will continue fighting for workers.
I support initiatives that invest in our education system and empower teachers. It is essential that public school systems, students, and educators in West Virginia be supported. Strengthening and maintaining the public school system will inspire the next generations of West Virginians and empower educators in the state.
West Virginia students must also be given the tools to succeed beyond high school. Higher education in West Virginia has been scaled back in limiting not only operational budget, but in turn, opportunities for our students to succeed in competing for jobs in a global economy. I will work to ensure that West Virginia higher education prepares learners to perform at the highest levels of their chosen career path.
I am determined to work tirelessly to support these objectives and pave the way for a brighter future in West Virginia. Together, let us seize this moment and build a stronger, more prosperous West Virginia for all.
As an elected official I will be open, honest and accountable to the public. I will provide clear and accessible information about government actions, decisions, and policies. By doing so I hope to foster a culture of trust and engagement, ultimately leading to a more informed and participatory democracy.
